The McCleary School District serves an area of 20 square miles and provides programs for students PreSchool through eight. Most high school students from our district attend Elma High School. The district's assessed valuation is $154,000,000 and the current operating budget is approximately $2,500,000.
A two-year levy was passed in February 2008. Thanks to great community support, the district has enjoyed a favorable passage of levies during the past many years. The 2008-2010 maintenance and operations levy amount is $470,000 in 2008-09 and $525,000 in 2009. The levy also generates significant levy equalization monies from the state.
The school was constructed in 1952 and added on to during three different construction phases in 1958, 1979 and 1990.
A 6.4 million dollar bond was passed in February 2007. The bond revenue and state matching funds will provide a complete remodel in 2008-09. In addition, the school will get a new music/band room, library/media center, additional parking, student drop-off zone, and five new classrooms. Construction should be complete in August 2009.
Student transportation for all grades, including high school, is provided by five district buses. Many of the students using the buses live within a one mile radius of the school. These students have the option of riding a school bus, being transported by their parents, or walking to school.
The district currently enrolls approximately 245 students in grades K-8. The average class size is 18 students per class.
Students have the benefit of music/band instruction, special education, Title I and Learning Assistance programs and school counseling. After-school programs include tutoring for grades 3-8 and sports for grades 5-8. |
