I am very excited to begin the school year with you! We will have a lot of fun this year.
Each Monday you will receive a newsletter and homework packet in your child's folder. The newsletter will be filled with information you will need to know. There will be important dates to remember, important events happening in the classroom, reminders for important classroom events, and samples of work we are doing in the classroom. You will also find a section entitled, "Classroom Needs." Here you will find a list of things we need in the classroom, such as: snacks, glue sticks, various supplies for upcoming art projects and themes. Please make sure you check your child's folder daily. It may contain important notes from the school or myself. I also try to write a brief note on your child's homework packet when lunch money is needed. Besides the note, please look for a stamp on your child's hand that looks like a dollar sign ($). This indicates your child needs to bring lunch money to school. You can put money in your child's folder and I will make sure it makes it to the office.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can call me at school or email me. I frequently check my email.
I look forward to a great year of kindergarten with you and your child.

Movie Night
Both kindergarten classes are currently planning a movie night to take place in the evening on June 11th. Each class will be veiwing thier own class videos in thier own classrooms. As the videos will be viewed in the classrooms, I am asking that you limit the people you invite. I will do my best to provide the maximum seating possible. Each student will be bringing the video home with him or her in thier memory book (given to you and your child at Movie Night.) I will be providing the DVDs to each student. In return I ask for a small donation to help cover the costs of the DVDs and paper sleeves.
Following the vidoe, all are invited to attend a social gathering in the gym. There will be cake and drinks provided in the gym.

Thank you to all who came to our Mother’s Day Tea. It was a huge success and kids loved having you here.
This week in phonics we will be beginning our section on digraphs. A digraph is two letters that come together to make one sound. We will begin with digraph ck. Our keyword for this digraph is duck. We will be discussing how ck comes after a short vowel.
Last week we kicked off our geometry unit in math. The kids have had a lot of fun with it thus far. This week we will be focusing on making shapes on a geoboard, creating a shape mural, and hexagons.
In science we will be wrapping up our plant unit and focusing this week on our safety information. Please practice your child’s first and last name, address, telephone number and birthday with them nightly. This is very important information for every child to learn. Next week we will be starting a science unit on rocks.
Thank you to all who chipped in for Teacher Appreciation. I have really appreciated all of the extra treats brought in by parents. I especially appreciate the coffee card. I truly believe I have some of the best parents in the school. You have all gone above and beyond in giving to the classroom and students this year. I am truly thankful for all you have done.
Snacks
We are currently out of snacks. I have brought in some dried cereal for us to eat until snacks are brought in.
If possible, please send some snacks to school with your child. There are only 23 more days of school. If everyone brought in enough snacks for the entire class for one day, I wouldn’t need to ask for snack for the remainder of the school year.
The kids really enjoy fruit snacks, applesauce, crackers, Goldfish crackers and just about anything else.
Please remember when buying snack that we do have a student with a peanut allergy in our room. The snack cannot contain any peanuts or peanut butter.
Thanks!
Last Scholastic Book Orders
In your child’s homework folder is the last of the Scholastic book orders for the year! I have included every book order Scholastic has sent to me. Please make sure you have your order turned in by Friday, May 30th (the day of our Hands On Children's Museum fieldtrip.) I will try to remind you at movie night if you have not yet turned them in.
Thank you to all who have ordered this school year. The bonus points you have helped me earn has gone towards the books your child will be receiving on the last day of school as well as classroom books. I appreciate all of your support.
Movie Night
I will be hosting a class movie night Wednesday, June 11th. Throughout the year I have been taking and collecting pictures of your child’s kindergarten experience. If you have any pictures from fieldtrips you would like to share for the video, please send them in on a disc. I would be more than happy to include any and all pictures I receive.
This night will be a night for you and your family to join us in the classroom to watch the class video and eat some popcorn.
I will have a copy of the movie available for each student. Your DVD will be in your child’s memory book, which will be given to you at the end of movie night.
Donuts for Dad
Friday, June 6th, we will be celebrating our fathers.
Similar to our Mother’s Day Tea we will be inviting our fathers in for a time to share with us in our classroom.
We will begin our morning at McFun. Once McFun is over we will move to our classrooms for breakfast. Hot water, donuts and fruit will be provided.
Once breakfast is over there will be short time for your child to read his or her favorite book to you.
We will be taking a walking fieldtrip to the hospital and park on this day as well. If you would like to attend both Donuts for Dad and the fieldtrip, that would be great. Invitations for both events will be coming home in May.
Mark your calendars for both of these important events!

Projects and Themes
Safety
We completed our plant unit by giving our mothers' a Forget-Me-Not plant for Mother's Day. We will now be focusing on our safety information. We are learning our full names, our parents' names, our address, telephone number and birthday. To celebrate learning all of this important safety information we are in the middle of planning a walking trip to the hospital at the end of the school year.
