New to Homework Policy
The last bit of each school year gets really busy, especially with spring sports, so it is important for children to stay focused on school. In preparation for second grade as well as working on being responsible, homework needs to be turned in daily. Those students that don’t turn in the expected homework for the day will miss a recess to work on it. Whatever homework is sent home, is due the next day with the exception of spelling homework and math games. Spelling is to be done in little bits throughout the week and math games are to be played over the course of the week. When a student is absent, I will accept late work.
If your child has a valid excuse for not doing the homework, please send a note. If you feel the homework is too much for your child or have any questions or concerns about this, please let me know. We can certainly work out a different plan if needed.
Memory Books
If you would like to take on the task of compiling memory books for the children in this class please let me know ASAP. Last year Michelle Pierce, our room mom, took on the task all by herself. She is a bit overwhelmed this year and would like someone else to take the lead and she would be available to help. Let us know if you have any interest at all, even if it isn’t taking the lead, but in helping.
Math
We will finish our unit on data analysis this week as we conduct several in class surveys. Attached is a paper titled Family Ages. The information on this sheet is needed for one of our activities this week. Have your child only list family members that live in your household along with any siblings only, that may not live with them. Please have your child return this sheet tomorrow. Thank you!
Phonics
Lessons this week will include digraph combinations
‘ir,’ and ‘ur.’ We will also work on reviewing combinations ‘ar,’ and ‘er.’
