MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH6th Grade The 6th graders have started a unit titled Bits & Pieces I. During this unit we will be taking an in-depth look at fractions, their parts in relation to a whole, as well as simplifying, adding and subtracting them. Knowing the rules of divisibility, prime, composites, factors and multiples – as well as fluent in multiplication and division facts are extremely useful in the success of this unit. Any work you can do with your child in this area would be very helpful for their success. 7th Grade The 7th graders have started a unit titled Bits and Pieces II. During this unit, we continue to look at using fraction operations and practicing the skill of estimation. Working with your student in areas that require fractions, such as cooking, building, and sewing would be very helpful. Additionally, working on area and perimeter of polygons would aid in your child’s success. 8th Grade The 8th graders have started a unit titled Moving Straight Ahead. During this unit we are looking at different linear relationships and modeling them in line graphs, tables, and equations. We will focus on slopes of lines and writing equations to represent the relationship between data. Anytime you can point out unit rates and slopes will be helpful in making real world connections to this algebraic concept. |

Progress reports are sent home at the end of every month. Please check with your child on November 21st for their final progress report from math for the first trimester. All progress reports require a parent signature. Remember that you can fill out an application for Family Access so that you can access a progress report of your child’s grade and work completion at any time online. If you are interested, please call the school at 495-3204. |

EXPECTATIONSCalculator It is expected from this point forward, through high school, that every student have a scientific calculator. Although I have a few that are available to be borrowed, it is strongly suggested that each student have their own with them at all times. I do have Texas Instrument calcs available for purchase for $10. |
